For my Southwest Florida photos I try to dramatically create a heightened zone of intimacy with nature. This is a perception zone where recognition of surroundings is heightened and narrowed and where focus is critically tuned and enhanced. This different way of looking at nature allows me to see things in a way others don’t.
I work to keep my design infused photography innovative, inventive and freshly imagined - - often taking advantage of the natural design elements nature provides. Much of my work contains surprising visual metaphors for the viewer while remaining rooted in photography’s magic, that is, its ability to transform the mundane into an image with resonance.
My nature related images are not made with a traditional camera. Instead, they are created using a modified digital scanning process. My techniques embrace the limited depth-of-field of a scanner and its unusual quality of light not present when using traditional digital camera based photography. The process results in images of intense clarity along with a dramatically limited depth of field.
